Beauty of Indonesia

Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic country located in Southeast Asia. The Beauty of Indonesia lies between two continents, Asia and Australia and two oceans, Pacific and Indian oceans. Consisting of more than 17,000 islands and some 6,000 islands of which are uninhabited. The 5 major islands are Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Papua which always show the panorama of Beauty of Indonesia . Java is the smallest island but it is the island's most dense population. In addition, there are several islands such as the Riau islands, the Moluccas, and Lesser Sunda islands. Beauty of IndonesiaBeauty of Indonesia is the most popular attraction for tourist. Each island and archipelago in Indonesia have their charm. The beauty of Indonesia beaches and its natural forests have been the main attraction for travelers who want a beautiful atmosphere. Java Island is the most populous island in Indonesia and you can find much of beauty of Indonesia in this island. There is the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta. Take your time to visit Yogyakarta, a Sultanate that still stands to this day. You can visit the "Keraton" which is the palace of Sultan and Kota Gede as the center of silver craftsmen. Also visit Malang, a town in the mountains of East Java that shows what the beauty of Indonesia is. The city is cool and there are quite a lot of tourist facilities nearby such as the ancient Budhist temple, Borobudur and Hindhuis temple, Prambanan.

In Sumatra you can pay a visit to Lake Toba in North Sumatra to see the beauty of Indonesia. This lake is a volcanic crater which erupted 75.000 years ago. The landscape is very beautiful with the island of Samosir in the middle. There are several other lakes in Sumatra such as, Lake Maninjau, Lake Singkarak, Lake Kerinci etc. Find the beauty of Indonesia in Lagundri Bay and Sorake Beach in the hidden paradise, the island of Nias, an island in the western of Sumatra. Sorake and Lagundri are known for very excellent waves for surfing. In West Sumatra, you can visit the town of Bukit Tinggi. There you will enjoy a very beautiful valley scenery, Ngarai Sianok. If you like hiking, you can hike Mount Kerinci (3,805 ms) , the second highest mountain in Indonesia. If you travel to Sulawesi, do not forget to see the beauty of Indonesia at Tana Toraja, a place famous for the cemetery on the cliffs of stone. You can see a very unique custom there. Also Visit Bunaken in Manado. Bunaken is one of the best dive sites in the world. Its underwater life is pristine and very beautiful. Beauty of Indonesia If you are an adventurous and love to see the wild beauty of Indonesia, then a visit to the island of Borneo or Papua will be able to meet your satisfaction as an adventurer. The islands still have a lot of wilderness that is still pure and virgin. There are many predatory animals found wild in there. In addition there are many tribes who live isolated in the wilderness. In Borneo you can visit a rehabilitation center for orangutans that have been threatened with extinction. While in Papua you can climb Puncak Jaya, the mountain which has a permanent snow at its peak or you can dive in Raja Ampat Islands. In the Riau Islands, you can find the beauty of Indonesia at Island of Bintan. Bintan Island offers beautiful views of the beach for you. Or you can go to the Island Penyengat to witness the legacy of the kingdom in the past. In addition to the island Penyengat, you can also watch the royal heritage of the past on the island of Ternate and Tidore in the Maluku Islands. While these kingdoms have been lost, but the descendants still retain their customs and traditions of their family to become a hereditary uniqueness. While in the Lesser-Sunda Islands, you can visit Komodo Island, inhabited by the last descendant of prehistoric reptiles, Komodo. When I was a student, my teacher told me that the tourist called Bali as A Thousand Temple Island. Why, I asked him. Because there were many temples in Bali, that was his answered. Well, that is only a parable. In fact, based on a record, there are more than 12,611 temples around Bali island, excludes the family temple. The royal family of Bali made their own temples for their own religious activities. A law in this island says that every village must have minimum 3 temples, so you can see the affect of the law today. Many temples in Bali are hundreds years old and you will feel something mystical if you visit them. Remember to have a dress code for entering the temples and always be respectful while there. Here is some of most popular temples : Pura Besakih bali temple besakihLocated in in the village of Besakih on the south  slopes of Mount Agung,  the principal volcano in eastern Bali. The Mother Temple of Besakih is the most important, the largest and holiest temple of Agama Hindu Dharma in Bali. Ancient story says that the Pura Besakih was built by Rsi Markandya and followers around the 11th century. At that time, Rsi Markandya wanted to open the forest to be a place to live. However, because many of his followers died due to illness, so to save his followers, Rsi Markandya build Sanggar Basuki, a place of worship of God as a savior. Besakih The name is taken from the word "Basuki" which means "savior”. Pura Tanah Lot bali temple tanah lot Located in Tabanan, about 20 km from Denpasar. The temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide. At the base of the rocky island, poisonous sea snakes, which was created from Nirata’s scarf,  are believed to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders. Built at about the 11 th century AD, when King Sri Astasura Ratna Bumi Banten powered. This cave used as a hermitage, as evidenced by the existence of niches in the cave. There are also seven swimming baths with an angel statue which are was holding the holy water. In Lontar Usana Bali and Lontar Babad Pasek Lawah state that Pura Goa Lawah was built as the initiative of Mpu Kuturan in 11 century AD and restored to extended in the 15 century AD. Lontar Usana Bali also stated that the Mpu Kuturan made a manuscript "Babading Dharma Wawu Anyeneng" which it recorded on the establishment of several temples in Bali, including Pura Goa Lawah in the Saka year or 1007 AD.

Raja Ampat Islands

Have you ever heard Raja Ampat Islands ? Never ? I think so.. But for those who like diving, then perhaps they have ever heard the name of the Raja Ampat Islands. Ja, base to many sources, Raja Ampat Islands is most known as one of the best dive sites in the world for its wealth, diversity and beauty of the underwater  paradise​​.

Located in the region of "Bird Head" Peninsula of Island of Papua, Raja Ampat Islands administratively belongs to the Province of West Papua, Indonesia, about 50 miles from the town of Sorong in West Papua. The archipelago is a series of four adjacent islands. The four islands were named in the name of its largest island, namely Waigeo Island, Misool Island, Batanta Island and Salawati island. Overall, Raja Ampat Islands has more than 610 islands, 35 islands of which have been inhabited. And many of the island has not even given a name.

To go there, you can use the airlines from Jakarta to Sorong via Manado, about 6 hours. From Sorong, then you can use pinisi boat to explore the islands or stay in Papua Diving Resort that offers underwater tours.

Raja Ampat UnderwaterAs mentioned earlier, the Raja Ampat Islands are recognized in the top 10 best places in the world for its richness, diversity and beauty of the underwater world. A study noted in these waters there are more than 540 species of hard corals, over 1000 species of reef fish, 700 species of mollusks. This research revealed that Raja Ampat Islands owns 75% of coral species of the world. In some areas, the condition of coral reefs are still very well where the level life coral reached to 90%. This area are  Dampier Strait which seperate Batanta Island and Waigeo Island, Kofiau Islands, Wayag Islands and Misool Islands.

In Raja Ampat Islands, you can find a wide range of marine life such as several species of sea horses, wobbegong, manta rays. You can also find hordes of tunas, giant trevallies and snappers. Maybe, you also will get a thrilling experience when you meet a group of barracudas or sharks. In some places, you can also find turtle or sea cow. Raja Ampat Islands also has endemic fish species, such as Eviota, a kind of gobies. There are also Apogon, a kind of cardinal and Hemysyllium, a type of shark.

Not only the beauty beneath the water, Raja Ampat Islands also offers a wealth of flora and fauna that are not less interesting. Red Cendrawasih, Wilson Cendrawasih, Maleo Waigeo, Nuri and Cockatoos, are various species of birds that inhabit the islands of Raja Ampat. While the plants that make its natural resources are the various types of orchids, including the famous black orchid.

In Raja Ampat Islands can also be found relics of history. In Misool Islands you can find prehistoric relics in the form of hand stamp on a rock wall. Uniquely, the stamp of this hand is very close to sea level and not in the cave. Estimated age of this hand stamp around 50,000 years and become part of a series of instructions for distributing human path from the western region of the archipelago to Papua and Melanesia. It can also be found in the remains of World War II such as the sinking ship in the diving area of ​​the Wai archipelago and cave bunkers built by the Dutch and the Japanese army during the World War II.

In the Raja Ampat archipelago there are also natural phenomena. In East Waigeo, particularly in front of Urbinasopen and Yesner Villages, 'there is a very interesting and unique natural phenomenon, the which cans only be seen every year-end. A light comes out from the ocean and wanders around on its surface for about 10-18 minutes. After that, it disappears and cans only be seen again at the following years-end. Local inhabitants in both villages call this phenomenon the "Sea Ghost". This is more than just a sunset view, overlooking from your liveaboard.

Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon

Sesuai namanya, Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon terletak di ujung barat (Kulon=Barat (Sunda)) Pulau Jawa dan merupakan taman nasional terluas di Pulau Jawa dengan luas 1.206 km2 (443 km2 diantaranya merupakan laut).

Kawasan Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon ini meliputi Tanjung Ujung Kulon hingga Samudra Indonesia. Juga  beberapa pulau kecil seperti Pulau Peucang, Pulau Handeleum dan Pulau Panaitan. Kawasan Gunung Anak Krakatau juga termasuk dalam Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon.

Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon ini merupakan taman nasional tertua di Indonesia, dimana para ahli botani Inggris dan Belanda telah menjelajahi dan menelitinya sejak tahun 1820. Pada tahun 1992, UNESCO menetapkannya sebagai Situs Warisan Dunia karena wilayah hutan lindungnya sangat luas yang merupakan suaka margasatwa terakhir bagi Badak Jawa yang tinggal 50 ekor. (Catatan : Badak terakhir di luar daerah Ujung Kulon mati terbunuh pada tahun 1935 di daerah Cililin, Bandung. Kerangkanya terdapat di Museum Zoologi, Bogor)

Sebelum letusan Gunung Krakatau pada 27 Agustus 1883, kawasan ini merupakan pedesaan dan persawahan. Bencana Krakatau menyapu bersih seluruh kawasan beserta penduduknya dan mengubah nya kembali menjadi hutan.

Untuk berkunjung ke Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon diperlukan ijin dari Kantor Taman Nasional di Kota Labuan atau Taman Jaya. Di taman ini terdapat penginapan di Pulau Peucang dan Pulau Handeleum.

Taman Nasional Lorentz

Taman Nasional Lorentz berada di Pulau Papua. Taman Nasional di Indonesia yang diresmikan tahun 1997 merupakan taman nasional dengan ekosistem terlengkap di Asia Tenggara dan Pasifik. Meliputi vegetasi dari kawasan  alpin, sub-alpin, montana, sub-montana, dataran rendah, dan lahan basah. Dari Puncak gunung es Jayawijaya hingga perairan di Laut Arafura di selatan Papua. Kota yang dekat dengan Taman Nasional Lorentz ini adalah Timika dan Wamena.

Selain dari flora dan fauna yang begitu beragam karena lingkup vegatasi yang lengkap, kawasan Taman Nasional Lorentz ini juga memiliki kekayaan budaya yang sangat menakjubkan. Budaya dari penduduk asli di sana diperkirakan telah berumur 30.000 tahun. Tercatat suku  Nduga, Dani Barat, Amungme, Sempan dan Asmat yang menjadi penduduk asli di kawasan ini. Suku Asmat merupakan suku yang terkenal akan ketrampilannya memahat patung. Dan disana juga terdapat mumi kepala suku Dani, yang terkenal dengan nama Mumi Lembah Baliem.

Tak dapat dipungkiri bahwa kekayaan alam ini harus terus dilestarikan. Bahkan UNESCO menetapkan Taman Nasional Lorentz sebagai Situs Warisan Alam Dunia dan ASEAN menetapkan sebagai Warisan Alam ASEAN. Dan semoga gelar tersebut menjadikan kita lebih menyadari arti pentingnya alam bagi kehidupan manusia.

Pantai Sorake : Surga Para Surfer

Pantai Sorake.. Apakah anda pernah mendengar pantai ini ? Jika belum.. baiklah..

Pantai Sorake berada di Teluk Lagundri di Pulau Nias sebelah selatan. Pulau Nias sendiri merupakan sebuah pulau di sebelah barat pantai Sumatra Utara, sekitar 10 jam menumpang ferry dari Sibolga.

Bukan hal aneh jika dikatakan Pulau Nias merupakan pulau yang indah. Sudah terlalu biasa menyebutkan hal tersebut untuk pulau-pulau di Indonesia. (Yah, memang indah, kok). Begitu juga budayanya.. Nias juga mempunyai budaya unik yang berbeda dari suku-suku lain di Indonesia.

Namun, bagi para surfer kelas dunia, bukan hal itu yang menarik perhatian mereka. Tetapi ombak dan gelombang laut menakjubkan yang dapat mereka temui di Pantai Sorake. Pantai Sorake yang berhadapan langsung dengan Samudera Indonesia memiliki gelombang laut yang dapat mencapai ketinggian 15 m dan bertingkat 5. Hal ini menyebabkan permainan seorang peselancar dapat lebih lama. Dan bilamana dia gagal di tingkat pertama, maka masih ada 4 tingkat lagi yang dapat dijajal. Gelombang laut ini juga bisa mencapai panjang 200 m. Dan semua itu merupakan sesuatu yang ideal dan sangat dicari oleh para peselancar dunia dan menjadi salah satu tempat selancar terbaik di dunia.
